Cycling for Fred

One of DSL Global Freight Directors, Julian Frazier, successfully completed arguably Britain’s most difficult cycling sportive events.

The Fred Whitton challenge is a 112 mile, 12000 ft climb, incorporating all of the high routes in the Lake District and is number 5 in the Daily Telegraph’s list of toughest one day cycling sportives in the world.

What makes the Lake District a unique challenge is its geography and the abundance of very steep climbs (e.g. 30% Hardknott pass) rather than the longer but less steep Alpine climbs.

Whilst in typical Lake District fashion it of course rained, the other menaces were wind and sheep on the road causing an unpredictable hazard.

The event which attract 2500 riders from all over Europe raises money for many charities not least the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.
